Early detection of atrial fibrillation – the next breakthrough in health and wearable technology? Johnson & Johnson, in collaboration with Apple Inc., just announced plans to investigate the use of a new heart health program in combination with Apple Watch’s existing applications to accelerate the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AFib). If successful, the impact of this technology will be global – 33 million people worldwide live with AFib, a treatable arrhythmia condition that can lead to stroke and other complications. The research program will also assess the use of this technology for stroke prevention and improving other health outcomes.
